Well good news finally got 69 85HP Johnson motor running, with a little help from my local marine mechanic. Turns out pulse pack was ok, just had to remove points, clean, re-gap and install fresh plugs (NGK) and now it fires.
Had it in the water two days in a row. First day ran rough then got better but under full thottle began to over heat (had installed new water pump, but not housing seal), second day tried again ran only half throttle or less, didn't overheat ran better.
Guess I'll have to investigate both water pump housing & driveshaft seals as well as thermostat. May also have to possibly change prop pitch as current one appears to be 17 may have to get 15 or less.
Boat is a 18' fiberglass.
