Finally

After 5 months of being unemployed I was offered a job today. There were two IT job openings at this company. One was an entry-level helpdesk position. The other was a senior level network analyst position. When the HR lady called she said I did not meet all of the qualifications for the senior level position. So, they created a position/title below that of Network Analyst. She said as I improve my skill set I would be promoted. I didn't care about all that. I was just glad to finally have a job. The kicker is that it still pays more than my last job. I just completed (successully of course) the drug screening. It will be a few days for the results of the criminal background check to come back then I can start work. There won't be any problems with that. BTW, it's only a 15 min. drive to work so my fuel expenses won't really go up.

Anyway, what a relief!

Congrats! I cannot imagine the stress of being out of work. I'm also in the IT field and I think it hasn't been hit quite as hard as many of the other areas.

Great for you. I know how it feels to finally snag a new job. When I was laid off in 1995, I was more than 2 years away from my career, working here and there at this and that. When I got back at it, it felt great. Glad they created a spot for you and good luck, hope you like it. Sounds real good.

Way to go! And the company sounds decent seeing as they created a position to meet your level, rather than force you into the lower position. That is pretty rare. Hope things work out well for you there.

Thanks everybody. It's a big relief. We had to really tighten things up these past months but we're ok. You get used to beans and cornbread. If it weren't for the money we had saved I don't know what we would have done.

Man! Glad you got it! I know how frustrating all the searching and interviews that go nowhere are!
That's 2 of us that got work this week out of how many hundreds of thousands that are searching.

Good luck on the new job.
I just got laid off at Thanksgiving.....not looking too promising here in Michigan...hope something comes along soon.
2 weeks and I am already climbing the walls...can't handle not working.

Yep,Keep plugging away at it! Something will turn up.
It took me months but i did find something.Not the pay i used to get but much better than some of the other jobs out there.
Right now in these times it's just getting your foot in the door..

Congrats on the new job i386! And hang in there Tubingluvr! I'm in IT, and I live in Michigan, so I can relate to both of you guys. I still have a job, but I work for a smaller company that mainly supplies the auto companies, so it hasn't been too easy the past year. Everybody's pay was cut 20% a year ago, and no sign it'll get restored anytime soon. Lucky to have a job though.
