Having a hard time finding a fishing buddy since my old buddy has broke-up with his wife of 36ys and has moved back to another part of the state. It's my boat and i have been out with 2-guys from work and neither felt comfortable to fish with. One guy was a "know it all type" who was telling me where to throw my crab pots in waters i have been fishing for the last 10yrs. The other person was kinda of wuss/*****&complainer type he complained about the water conditions, the weather, and even said something about my boat being alittle small. Needless to say but these guys will never set foot on my boat again. I guess finding a fishin partner is almost as hard as finding a wife?

I feel for ya pscrabber59.

I usually go out with my dad, but he's getting up in age and agility just isn't what it used to be. Going out, especially in fresh water, I have always noticed a lot of men boating/fishing alone. Always wondered why they didn't have a partner with them. Different stories for each I suppose.

My dog is the best fishing partner I've ever had - he doubles as first mate. I have two brothers who are on the same page with me when it comes to fishing. We discuss what we are going to do, and do it. Though I am very competitive when it comes to fishing, as I have grown older I take time to smell the roses, Just being out in the great outdoors is so much better than being at work that I don't get bent out of shape when thigs don't go so great. My advise would be to discuss with any potential fishing partner your likes, and dislikes - feel them out. The golden rule on my boat is: fish hard, and don't complain! Good luck! :)

I like the peace and quiet and that's why 90% of the time I fish alone. I can only take so much when it comes to having people on my pontoon. If I wanted to talk I'd go to a sports bar or some activity that requires you to hold a discuss with people around you. I do that day in and day out at work and at home.....let's just say....being on the water alone is my drug of choice, what better way to relax.....well except during the day in the summer....then it's night fishing only for me.
I know it's a long shot but have you tried CL. Not saying just let someone you don't know at all show up at the boat ramp but maybe discuss your views on fishing via email and if it sounds like the person likes to fish the way you like to fish, call and discuss going fishing once to see how it goes. That are maybe post up on a board at one of the bait shops/tackle stores that you're looking for a fishin' partner. Good luck.

How about asking a few of your "non-fishing" friends if they might be interested in going a few times a year? Perhaps an old school friend or your wife's friends may have husbands who may be interested. Barring all that I think they sell life-sized cardboard standies of Roland Martin!
