I am installing a universal control on my 85 HP Force. I have the manual and have adjusted the throttle to work correctly. I still need to fine tune it. I just do not know if when I put the control in forward if I am selecting forward or reverse. I looked through the manual and could find nothing on this but may be looking in the wrong section . When I push the control forward The neutral switch cam pivots forward and the selector on top of the lower unit pulls up. Is this correct?
Thanks Tom

As you discribe it is switched.
Pushing the shift shaft down and you set the LU in forward gear and when you pull it up you set it in reverse gear.

Thanks!
I will tear the control apart tomorrow and install the shift cable into the hole on the opposite side.at least this time I haven't mounted it back into the helm. The control looks and feels nice but the Chinese English is not that good. in the instructions. I have the factory manual but this info on the shift is not in the remote control section. It did tell me how to center the neutral and I did that. It also had very good instructions on setting the throttle linkage.
I hope to splash her tomorrow or Thursday. Just finishing up the re-power. from 40 to 85 HP on my pontoon.

Repower from a 40 to 85hp.
The prop on regular boats is around a 17-19P
You might need a 15P
Figure out the rpm;s at wide open.

Jerryjerry05 Thanks.
. Right now she has a 17P stainless Quicksilver prop.. I have changed my old tach out to a new Force tach. I figured I might need to go down to 15P but I haven't found one in stainless. In fact the only new ones I have found so far are composite and one michigan wheel. Even the prop I have on it is no longer made. So it may be EBAY time. I am hoping that the 17P will be able to pull at least 4500 RPM..
Can I use a dual exhaust prop as long as I keep the Diameter under 13.5 inches? That opens up more possibilities.
I test fit one of my brothers Evinrude props that were 15 spline but the diameter was too large (hit the exhaust).

A 15 stainless is the same as a 17 alum.
You'd need a 13 stainless to equal a 15 alum.

Michigan Propeller.

I'd heard some mid size Yam props might fit???
Not sure if it's true???
But something to look into.

Well She is alive! The motor started up first turn of the key(once I figured out I wasn't all the way in neutral( tested the neutral safety. LOL) and the shift linkage worked great, The tach also works she idled at 850 RPM and the control let her go to 2000 on fast Idle. All on the muffs so far. I think I am going to splash her tomorrow.
Then I will find out if she needs re propped.

In the water in gear, moving 800 rpms.
Much lower and they tend to stall when put in gear.

Thanks Jerry, she was stalling I kicked it up to 1000 RPM in Neutral and 800 in gear and she performed flawlessly at idle . She would only pull 2400 RPM though. I am not sure if this is a prop issue or the motor. but the engine has 150 lbs of compression on all 3 cylinders and is running on all 3 so it may just be this 17P stainless prop won't let it get into its power band. It ran nicely at 2000 RPM for 8 miles from the launch site to my dock..

Thanks for the search link. I ordered a 13 p prop. I am double checking my linkage today to ensure I have wide open throttle. will also check my timing.
Where I ordered my prop through will let me try different pitches until I find the right one, as long as they are not damaged. It is composite Piranha prop.

Jerry I need to start another thread I am only firing on 2 in gear, I am not firing on cyl. 3.. I got it to fire on three and it ran well for about a mile, still needs a different prop. Now it is hunting up and down, it has good spark? Question is now fuel or spark. When it ran well it went strongly to about 4000 rpm but throttle response was crisp. Boat went 20 mph
Thanks for all your help Jerry!

Seafoam fixed the miss on no.3 cylinder running good now but doesn't always want to go into reverse. I found out the hard way to make sure you lock down the idle stop screw. When I took it out for a test drive it vibrated in and would not allow me to go into neutral and I crashed into my dock
