Okay, there seems to be some puter gurus here.
Some pictures were deleted back in January. I would like to have them back, but I can't seem to locate them.
I know where they were and what kind they were saved as, but when I use my Norton to use the Unerase Wizard, it says there are "unexpected values in the recycle bin".
What the heck does that mean?
I have Norton added to my recycle bin and there is a "Shred recycle bin contents" button, which was used when the pictures were deleted.
Is there anyway to get them back?
I will not be able to check back here until thurs evening, so my puter is a E-Machine 566mhz.
Thanks,
B.C.

I think you'll have to find them in the folders under Program files, however I am no software expert I am more of a hardware guy, good luck!

If you deleted them then used that shredder function in the Recycle Bin sounds like to me you're SOL.

I'll go with EFHenry on this one. If the shredder option was used it wiped the files for good. Norton does have a file recovery option (keeps versions of your deletes in a seperate folder for later recovery) but I'd guess the shredder option bypasses even that. Good Luck

As a side note. There are certain versions of trojan files that install themselves into your recycle bin (folder) with the read only, hidden, system file attribute. You won't see them in the recycle bin and they won't be discarded when you empty it.

You are definitely SOL if you used the shred function. Emptying recycle bin doesn't delete the actual file and it would still be recoverable. "Shredding" makes it completely unrecoverable. Not that it matters, but I think it fills the space that was occupied by the file with all "0"s, which is binary for permenantly erasing it.

Okay, thanks.
I thought that on some level, they would still be there.
I like what nuemanns said, because I bet they could be found, if needed.
B.C.
