Re: Finding props for Force 85 no problem
For some reason the prop selector on iboats shows the 1988 force as being a through-hub exhaust when it's not. Frank said to see if the water intake was on the lower unit torpedo, not above, and sure enough it is on the torpedo. Single exhaust as you said.
The only props listed on this site are Michigan props, and I wanted to run a Turning Point.
So,
I contacted Turning Point and e-mailed one of their technicians for a while.
He recommends:
Turning Point Legacy 13-1/4 x 17 prop, part # 31718 (LE2-1317)
Requires hub kit part # 31733 (hub kit # 501)
This hub kit is backwards compatible with both Michigans XHS and Mercurys Flo-Torque hubs.
The Force lower unit requires a thrust washer with this prop, which is included with the 501 kit and he said it will fit. I will know sometime next week for sure.
The prop was $74.25 from iBoats
Hub kit was $33.25
$107.50 for the whole setup.
Option 2:
The Turning Point HUSTLER prop will also work, part # H2-1317
Requires masterGUARD hub kit 30, does NOT include a thrust washer.
Thrust washer for Mercury 90-200HP is required.
part # 12-835467-1
Hustler and Legacy prop are identical, just different hub systems.
If you go this route the Hustler uses a masterGUARD hub (instead of MasterTORQUE) which is NOT interchangeable with either XHS or Flo-Torque props. HOWEVER iboats has the prop for $88 and that includes a FREE hub kit, so if you already have the proper thrust washer this could save you some money but with less interchangeability.
If you have to order a thrust washer you might as well get the Legacy like I did.
Hope that isn't too confusing.
But what this means is there are a lot more options out there, and both Michigan and Turning Point have stainless props that aren't intended for this engine but they will work. E-mail Turning Points technical department, they are outstanding and can tell you what props will work.
