Iboats Boat and Motor Info
1. Year, make and model of boat
1987 Rinker V180
2. Length, width and base weight of boat, look for boat decal on back of boat
17'6", 6'6", 1900lbs base
2a.What is the recommended HP for your boat
130 hp
3. Number of people and gallons of gas normally on boat
3 adults, 2 children, 20 gallons of gas
4. What do you use the boat for
Skiing, Cruising, All watersports
5. Is it a Deep Vee and if so how many degrees of deadrise
Vee Hull
6. Year, make and model of motor
1987, Mercruiser, 3.0 4 cyl
7. HP and gear ratio of motor IMPORTANT
130HP, 1.98 Ratio
If you don?t know the ratio, you need to pull the plugs out and put a piece of tape across the prop and the lower unit and then cut it between the prop and the housing and turn the motor until the tape lines up with each other, it is easier if two people do this, so one can watch the prop while the other counts the revolutions of the motor
8. Manufacturer?s recommended Wide Open Throttle (WOT) range
4200-4600
9. Anti-ventilation Plate height above keel of boat if it is an outboard in inches
10. Is it a bass boat or does it have a pad bottom
11. Does it have a hydrafoil, dolefin or trim tabs
Hydrafoil
12. Make, model, diameter, pitch and whether SS or aluminum prop
Aluminum Prop, Make: Michigan, Here are all the numbers on it: 129A PM 219 CUP 299L
13. WOT RPM and speed from your current prop and how much gas and how many people were in the boat for the test data and is the speed by GPS. If you do not have a tach you can buy a Tiny Tach for $ 50
WOT: 4500 felt like there was a little more but I did not want to push it any higher, 35 MPH, 20 Gallons of gas, 2 People. Speed by GPS
14. Are you at sea level or a higher elevation, give us the elevation in feet
Sea Level
15. Has your motor been tuned up lately and have you checked that the carburetor butterfly is opening all the way, checked compression, and looked at the plugs and checked spark, all of the foregoing could be the reason your prop is not attaining full RPM
16. How long has this prop been on the boat and why, at this time, do you think it is the wrong prop
Came with the boat when I bought it. Would like to go to a 4 Blade Prop. The prop is starting to slip so I need to get a new one.
17. Does the prop show any damage that you can see
No
18. What problems are you trying to cure or what are you looking for the boat to do that it is not doing the way you think it should or to your expectations
I would like a little more cruising Speed and a good hole shot for skiing
19. If you are trying to attain a better cruising speed and fuel savings or trying to attain a faster speed I will want you to take your boat and run it with 1 or 2 people and give me the RPM and speed readings starting at 3,000 RPM in 500 RPM increments all the way to WOT.

All I would like to do is gain a little more speed and have a good hole shot for skiing. I have read that a 4 blade also can help you plane at a lower speed.

Re: Finding the Correct Prop?

Blujay, in my opinion if you buy the Solas Amita 4 blade in a 17" pitch you should pick up about 200 RPM at WOT which is closer to your maximum RPM and your hole shot and acceleration all the way to WOT will increase substantially, making getting a skier up quicker much easier. You will be able to plane at a lower speed and your cruising speeds will be at close to the same RPM but at a much better fuel mileage because your prop slip will be reduced.

Re: Finding the Correct Prop?

After you install and run the prop would you please come back and give me the WOT RPM and speed for my database.

Re: Finding the Correct Prop?

Hwsii You said to go with a Solas Amita 4 blade in a 17" pitch. I used the prop finder here on iboats and under 17" pitch they do not have one they have the Solas Rubex. Would that work the same or is there a differance. The one I found that was the amita was counter rotation.

Needed prop in less than a week.Research led me to a local SOLAS dealer.HE states that the AMITA and RUBEX are same blade design and only difference is the hub insert. Also says if your using FLO TORQ II it is interchangeable with the solas prop but recommends the rubex hub for the rubber damping.

Re: Finding the Correct Prop?

Thank you very muh Brian that answers that question for me. :)
Blujay, I reread your post and notied that you said you had a little more throttle left and that the Mihigan Wheel prop has a up built into it, whih theoretially makes it a 20" pith prop. I am sorry I missed this before and I am so glad that they didn't have that prop available, things work in mysterious ways at times.
I am going to reommend the 19" Solas Amita 4 blade, it won't have quite the hole shot that the 17" pith does but it will keep your RPM in the orret range for your motor and still inrease your hole shot and aeleration and derease your prop slip. Here are the numbers and we need to subtrat another 200 to 300 RPM for the 4th Blade.
