Re: Finding where a Boat leaks
It is a fiberglass and I have two live wells but I never see any water in them I have all so changed all the plugs but I will take a look at the plug holes (ware the plug goes into) it has thru hull fittings under the boat.
Thank you for all the help. The boat is on a lift so that is how it goes into the water
Rick
thank you.
there are only a few reasons for leaks in a fiberglass boat.
1. thru hull penetration.
2. thru hull fitting/hoses leaking
3. drain plug fitting/incorrect installation
4. intrusion under the cap hull joint. (under the rub rail)
5. incorrectly sealed motor bolts/ transom mounted accessories
6. drive bellows/ drive seal/ shift shaft boot.
1. hull penetrations of a fiberglass boat are easy to spot.
look at the bottom of hull..... if there is any areas that the gellcoat is chipped away so the fibers are loose.......this is a suspect area (but rarely a penetration)
if the area is still suspect after careful examination.....marine tex is a cheap quick fix that will allow you to continue the search with out much time spent on a repair that may not be the real problem.
2.......take a look at the tru hull fittings of the live wells...... not just the fitting....but of the hoses that are connected to these. hose clamps hold on the hose, and can split the hose. a incorrectly working live well can pump water into the boat very fast.
3. the most simple check......look at the bilge drain when the boat is in the water....
4. rub rail intrusion. this will only happen when the boat is getting waves up under the rub rail. so if the boat is sitting on flat calm water, and is still leaking....you can rule this one out
5. look at any bolts that go thru the hull.....swim ladders....trolling motor mounts and the bolts that hold your motor on.
6. this is for i/o setups only....it is not applicable in your situation.
check all these.....and you will find your leak.
but im leaning toward the live wells
