Kcassels, really? I thought there has to be a reason for the silicone despite the inherent problems, this sounds like one.

I wonder how these new hybrid caulks work, they've apparently got some of the properties of both silicones and caulks. I'll research some more.

Water based caulks are just trouble in wet environments. Let me know what you find out. Typically its a test of time with the newer silcones out standing anything caulk. Bath or exterior silicones are my primary go to.

Great! I hope to be out and about from the middle of July onwards.

Will have to do a couple of shorter trips before I can trust the engine well enough for the crossing to Denmark. It's a small sea but you can get yourself in a world of trouble in the wrong conditions.

Needing help again, trying to come up with a plan for the switch/breaker panel. Would want something simple and robust with old school toggle switches to match the overall feeling of the boat.

I'm trying to decide which switches I need and where I should integrate circuit breakers on the panel and where to put them behind on some blade-fuse-junction box thing. Here's my guess atm:

(Actually I wonder if a separate fuse box would be simpler than breakers?)

1 Switch on-off Nav lights (red, green) 2 led bulbs a 10w each
2. Switch on-off Anchor light (360 yellow) 1 led bulb 10w
3. Switch on-off Searchlight (100w)
4. Switch on-off Floodlight deck (100w)
5. Switch on-off Navigation (Simrad nss 12 evo2, Nasa easy navtex, Amec camino ais, (radar in the future?))
6. Switch on-off-on Wipers (3 x Roca w12 slow - off - fast)
7. Switch on-on (?) Bilge pump override (Whale gulper 320, Whale Gulper 220(shower sump), Whale Supersub smart 1100)
8. Switch on-off Domestic water (Whale watermaster automatic)
9. Switch on-off Aux USB charging sockets x 3
10. Switch on-off Compass night light

Not on the panel but will need fuses:

10. Push button Air horn (compressor)
11. Interior lights (leds x 4) They all have their own switches integrated
12. Webasto Air top 2000 (own switch)
13. Fridge (Cruise inox 42)

Always on if main breaker ON:

14. VHF (Simrad rs12)
15. Bilge pumps x 3

Always on even if main breaker off:

15. Bilge pumps x 3

So a switch panel with let's say 12 switches of which 10 are in use to begin with. Is this logical at all or am I out there again?

(Oh yeah, and some switch for the Ac circuit to turn off the water heater)

Red, First you need to decide where you want such a panel, or panels, mounted. Then plot how you want it to layout and look. I did all that while I was building so I could install the wiring and PVC tubes so I can replace any cable later on, if need be. Once you decide where everything will mount, then we can come up with a sort of design. I used aircraft grade circuit breakers, so I never have to keep fuses and spares available. But everybody has their own likes and dislikes in that department.

Take a look at the panels I designed for my boat project and see what you think. JMHO

Sure. I know the rough size and placement of the panel, I'll make a more accurate plan later today.

I'm using a mobile browser 90% of the time and can't seem to find your panels in any project thread, there's no link to projects under your profile in mobile view either. Just the ones in your signature? (Which I thoroughly enjoyed reading while looking for the panels!).

In addition to what GM said, what else will be going in? Your lcd is in the lower left it looks like (very nice btw). If your switches go on the lower right will your throttle lever potentially bump them? Will you have anything else mounting up there?

You might try trimming a peice of cardboard the dimension of the console and trace the switches and what-not as a mock-up. I'm sure by now you already have a good idea, and it will look awesome!

The actual spot for the panel is underneath the plotter on the left of the steering wheel and mirroring the size of the engine panel which will be on the right.

I'll make a mockup, good idea.

Oh, gotchya! There's plenty of room down there. There's plenty of others with more experience than myself, so hopefullythey pitch in but it might be a good idea to have the lights on the outside row since a guest bumping them wouldn't cause much of an issue. the important ones might be best up higher so you're not trying to read a label to find the right switch in a panic scenario.... If that's a real issue. You also want the commonly used one up top too so....I think I just muddied the waters.

Do you have a pick of the engine panel?

Isn't it like 5am over there Red!?! 😓

6:44 AM, so many ideas spinning around topsides that sleeping seems futile after the dog woke me up :)

I'll se if I can find a photo. Good point about the switches.
