I'm a newbie to this site because I just purchased a 1947 Firestone 3.5 hp motor(Code 133-7-476) and need some help in getting it running again after lying dormant for about 20 years. The engine turns over, nothing seized, but there is no spark. The spark plug looks fairly new and in good condition. I've removed the gas tank and want to check the points, condenser and coil. How do I safely remove the flywheel if I don't have a flywheel puller? Are there any videos that show a good way of doing it? Thanks.

I have on newer motors left the nut on about a couple threads and hit with a rubber mallet and it pops off. Not saying it works all the time but it has. I would run to Harbor freight and get a puller on a motor that old.

Thanks for your suggestion about using the rubber mallet. It came off by doing the following:
- squirted some WD40 on the nut, and left if for a couple of hours.
- put the flywheel nut back on.
- hit the nut with the rubber mallet several times.
- hit all around the underside of the flywheel with the rubber mallet.
- SUCESS, it was loose enough to pop off.
Now I can clean the points and reset the gap.
