Re: firing order

Don't need to worry about firing order, Plug wires go from top to bottom as I replied to in your other post.

If really want to know the firing order, should be stamped on spark plug water jacket cover

Re: firing order

Gerry, I've got one of these in the shop right now and the switch boxes are wired for 1-5-3-6-2-4

1 and 6 share trigger coil (1), 5 and 2 share trigger coil (2) and 3 and 4 share trigger coil (3). Switch box #1 inner is set up so the top lug wire goes to #1 coil, middle goes to #5 coil, bottom goes to #3 coil. The outer switch box is wired with top lug wire to #6 coil, middle to #2 coil and bottom to # 4 coil. The top three coil plug wires go to cylinders 1, 2, 3 and the bottom go to cylinder 4, 5, 6.

I'm pretty sure that's correct for 1985 I6 90 and 115. The Merc manual seems to agree.

Re: firing order

The firing order is not 1-5-3-6-2-4, it is as Gerry stated 1-4-5-2-3-6. The switchboxes are layed out top to bottom wiring as such 1-5-3-6-2-4.

Re: firing order

Good for you gwukena, I wasn't going to argue the point. I thought he would figure it out in the end, especially as he said he had one in his shop. Thanks for the backup.

1 and 6 share trigger coil (1), 5 and 2 share trigger coil (2) and 3 and 4 share trigger coil (3).
3 & 6 share the same coil as do 2 & 5 and 1 & 4
