Hey everyone!

It's good to find somewhere that I feel like I can get answers from! Her is my plight;

My girlfriend's father bought a trailer a while back that came with a boat. He had no want or use for the boat, so he gave it to us. I love boating and being out on the water so I accepted the gift. Like anyone with any hobby and a touch of intelligence, I immediately dug into the internet to research my new spring project, and that is where my problems began.

The title of the boat says "1968 Hale Boat" for year, make, and model respectively, so I looked that up on the internet and could not find it. Upon closer inspection, I realized that the boat had a "Tom Sawyer" logo on it, and once again, several searches did not yield any results.

Can anyone give me any information as to what boat I have? It has a mercury 165hp inboard engine, closed bow, V-hull and is equipped with several amenities including electric adjustable up down for the prop and a bilge pump so I'm assuming it was a very nice boat when it was new.

I would just like to find some info out so that I can research what I have now come to own. Any info would be great.

Thanks,
Nick

Check with fiberglassics.com for moer info, but names are mostly irrelevent, fiberglass is fiberglass.

However, you need to go down to the I/O forum and click on the adults only sticky, you can get the factory manuals for your engine and drive.

Thanks for a quick replyh folks! The reason I am trying to find out more info is that I would like to know what the boat was like brand new and different specs and stuff. I will get a hull I.D. later...I'm assuming that it can be found on the title?

Thanks
Nick

Just to help out some, you most likely have an Inboard/Outboard, NOT an inboard. (there is a lower unit outside the boat. On a true inboard you just have a shaft and prop) Reason I'm guessing you have an I/O is that you have trim (not really an option, it is more a requirement on an I/O) Inboards also have rudders generally, whereas an I/O swings the drive/prop to turn.

Bilges pumps could have been added later, so keep in mind how the boat is equipped now might not have been what it left the factory as. Alot can happen to a boat in 40+ years!

Thank you for that 'Crater! I am finding out more and more that the lingo for boats is very specific, and I have a lot to learn than just dropping the ol girl off the trailer and pushing the throttle forward! I am excited to keep learning about this boat, but have yet been able to find much information on tom sawyer boats, other than the fact that they were a sister company started by ex-mark twain marine employees. Oh well, guess life's an adventure!
