Re: First day of the rest of my life.....

One of the things I've learned in my brief "boat shopping"....a lot of boats are way over priced, sometimes twice what they're worth. And I think it's because people have owned them for a long time, and have fallen in love....moreso than other items I've bought and sold.

This woman with the 1990 Forrester will not budge off $4000, shes says, "it's been her boat for a long time",and she "knows" it's worth it. Now this thing....and the dude trying to get $2700 for that Capri.

Especially in this market with people getting laid off, and saleguys like me not making what I did 3 years ago, and people are still over pricing their boats....I guess I can be patient, but it's getting close to football season for my son (I coach), and our boating weekends/going to the beach are going to be over, then I'll wait til' Spring.

I want/can add a nice sound system, must have bimino top and cover.

Great advice here so far and I agree that the bimini should be low on the priority list. If it's on the boat, great, but it wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me. Think of the bimini as an add on, like one of those cup holder thingies (yeah I said thingies :p) you would put in the boat. The bimini and cover are 2 things that can and will deteriorate over time (canvas and thread rot) so I wouldn't put too much value on them when looking at a boat, well unless they were brand new.

I totally agree with you on craigslist and peoples perception of their property, see people asking $1500 for a boat that would take $2000 to make it worth $1500  But, you have to be prepared to act quick and have cash-in-hand when a deal comes along. I sold a trailer and set of 3 new tires, asking a $300 for each and they were gone in 24 hours. Figured it's what I'd pay and they sold like hotcakes.

Good luck
