Hi all..New to this site, and a new owner of an old deck boat. The boat is a 1991 Hurricane FD226,with a Yamaha YEMS 4.3 V-6,Yamaha stern drive. It was given to me by a friend who's dad bought it new in'91,put 34 hours on it over the years and then it sat the past ten years. All fluids looked new,but I am replacing all fluids in motor and outdrive, new fuel line from tank, new fuel filters, etc. I'm pretty sure I should rebuild carb also. Have not run motor yet, should I replace the sea water impeller and is there an impeller in the out drive as well? This is my first I/O boat and I know little about stern drives. Also, the boat was stored with the stern drive in the full-up position and I hear this can cause problems?..Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: First deck boat..

I think most/all raw water cooled boats have impellers, yes you want to change it. I never heard of a Yamaha stern dive till you mentioned it, only OMC, Mercruiser, and Volvo Penta. Keep the stern drive up puts strain on the bellows and the time didn't help. I would replace all the belows as well. Finding an owners manual will help a lot.

There are people here who know a lot more than I on this forum, hopefully one of them will chime in.
