First engine run with no outdrive

Planning to fire up the new engine in the boat today, but with no outdrive on yet.
Can you see any problem with doing that? I mean the exhaust is complete from the elbow to the exhaust bellows.
The exhaust and water should just come out the hole in the back where the outdrive ISNT right?

Shove garden hose with rag into water passage (google search here on iboats, there are pics) and let er rip

you mean for the water intake? I was just going to stick a hose onto the thermostat housing.
Im just wondering whether letting it all drop out the hole in the back was ok

stick the hose into the water inlet hole in the gimbal housing the black circle

Yes, I typically run my engines during spring prep without the outdrives. As described, I secure the hose into the water inlet at the bell housing. From there everything is as if it had an outdrive. Bravo works better than the Alpha (IMO) because the Bravos have the sea water pump at the engine, whereas the Alphas are relying purely on enough water pressure to push through the engine.
