first gen alpha outdrive

I am getting a lower unit first gen. I can get the upper part of the outdrive included at no extra money but it wont be the correct gear ratio. Is it worth paying the extra shipping. Probibly wont be more than 100 bucks. Are there enough parts that I ccould use in the event I toast my upper?
