To stumpalump and smokingcrater in particular, thank you for your input. You may or may not have noticed a few posts back, where I bowed to the superior knowledge of forum members and conceded that it would not be a very clever idea to attempt to launch my boat, using my car.
This was why I posted my question in the first place, to get opinions from those who know much better than me and to confirm what I already suspected. So, for the record, I won't be attempting to launch my boat with my car. Everybody can relax, (especially me) and look forward to seeing somebody else having their vehicle pulled out of the water on youtube. Not that I would ever wish such a situation on anyone.

Thanks again for all the helpful responses.

If you live in Ireland, an XJ6 is a big car. Here in the states, not so much. Folks can't survive without their pickups, and they are absolutely humongous compared to anything you see in Europe. Having said that, I agree with the poster who said you may have made a mistake with your calculations. A 25' boat is large even if you had a humongous pickup with which to haul it. Best go to Plan B.

We spent a paltry three days in Ireland in 2013 and really enjoyed it, even though driving on the left was a first for me. The Wicklow Mountains were nothing short of spectacular. Nice people. Good beer, too.

I also noticed that tour coaches can have the steering wheels on either side. I guess they must come over from Europe somehow. Must be a challenge trying to find a place to park where you're not letting your passengers off in traffic.

A typical 25' cabin cruiser is pushing the upper limits of a normal 1/2 ton truck here. My 25' Sea Ray is about 8000lbs including trailer. My 2013 Ram 1/2 ton is rated at somewhere around 8600lb towing capacity so I am real close. And that is a 395 HP 6000lb. 4 wheel drive truck.
