First Motor - Evinrude Aquasonic - New boat owner...

Just got my boat yesterday, and the owner threw in an Evinrude Aquasonic FleeTwin 7.5 outboard motor...

May I ask what I need to look at to find the exact year?



He shot some starter fluid right into the intake and gave it a pull, sounded ready to go...

Am looking for some maintenance literature, or overall specs and diagram of the motor so I dont go and break something.

Aquasonic was a one-year term - used only on 1955 models. I would be VERY nervous about using starting fluid in an outboard as it can rinse all the oil right out of the powerhead, and it attracts moisture, leading to possible rust.

Check all hoses, check the ignition coils for cracks, replace the waterpump impeller (even if it LOOKS okay), and consider going through the carb, too. Lots of posts here on these old Fleetwins (and their Johnson 7.5hp siblings) for more detailed info...

And I could be wrong... I am not sure it was starter fluid... looked like it, but I am not positive.
