First oil change, I've got a couple of questions.

Dealership wants a couple hundred bucks to change the oil, that seems pretty high to me, it can't be that difficult can it?

I've done a little reading and know I'll need a couple of things. I was wondering if I could get some help to make sure I have everything I need.

As far as a pump to remove the oil, what's a good one that is recommended?

Oil? What brand and viscosity?

Filter? What brand and model would I need?

Am I missing anything? I'm assuming this whole process shouldn't take too long but please correct me if I'm wrong and this actually is one of those times where it does make sense to pay a mechanic.

Any help is really appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: First oil change, I've got a couple of questions.

I moved this to the non repair forum, look around, there are many posts about which oil, which filter, which pump etc.
It's not a hard job, but it is time consuming.
You have to warm the engine to get the oil warm enough to either drain out the hose, or get sucked out with a pump.
Then you change it, and not make a mess in the bilge or inside the boat. Put new in, test run to make sure the oil filter doesn't leak, recheck the oil, and your done.
Unlike a car that you drive in, engine is hot, the do all the work under the car in 5 minutes and done. Not going to happen in a boat.
