HAHA!!!!

I just realised why the motor died!

I remember getting back to the ramp and my plastic tank was colopsing... I left the vent closed!!

The battery was already dead by the time it died. that explains the loss of power right before too!

I am smarter than that!!!!!!!!

everyone laugh now :)

Kevin

Ooops! Happens every day on every body of water. Aside from leaving the bilge plug out, the closed vent is probably the most popular stupid human trick out there.

Of course....myself...I've never done such a stupid thing. No...not me...never. [grin]

CAT...Just curious how the motor can run without a rectifier, I thought it needed the rectifier to convert voltage to DC for ignition. Thanks.

Nope. That rectifier is there only to convert the alternating current from the stator to DC to charge the battery. That's its function. With it disconnected, it won't charge the battery, but in the good old days, nobody's outboard charged the battery anyhow, and we all survived OK.

So is there a separate rectifier that converts the AC from the stator to DC for ignition, or does ignition run off AC, I always thought it was DC? Also somebody up top asked whether it was an alternator or a magneto, just a little bit confused as to the difference between the two. Thanks.

I know some alternators can be damaged by running with no battery, I am assuming this is not an issue, since it apears to be designed to run with no battery (pull start included...)
