Hello! This looks like a fabulous resource for me as a first-time boat owner.

I have canoed all my life, but this is our first non-human powered vessel, handed down from my in-laws who no longer want it.

I have plenty of questions but will leave those for other posts in appropriate places, however I do wonder if anyone can give me any further info about this boat and motor?

The sticker on the boat says:

Builder: Aluminum Boats
Model: Fury
Max HP: 50

The motor is a West Bend 450, 45 HP. Fired right up in a bucket of water :)

There are no dates to be found, but I'm told it is a '65 and the motor may be original but that is not documented.

Searching the web for "Aluminum Boats" of course, brought up a whole pile of un-related hits, and there doesn't seem to be much about West Bend motors out there I can find.

There are some very similar looking boats I've found pics of, such as a Peterborough Fury and Brunswick Cutter.

I'd love to know more about it, any info is appreciated!

Thanks,

Dave

p.s. I hope the picture posting is OK, I didn't see any guidelines for posting pics.

West Bend was bought out by Chrysler.
So you will be able to use parts from late 60's Chrysler motors

Re: First post, first boat... ID?

Thanks! I will check with the previous owner (father-in-law) about the impeller, I do know he maintained it well although hasn't used it in the last few years.

It has been cleaned up and looks much better without the coat of mildew but probably will need some work on the floor (it has been replaced before).

Can anyone give me any more info on the boat? Was there really a company called "Aluminum Boats" which made fiberglass boats?

Thanks,

Dave

Re: First post, first boat... ID?

Hi Mad Davy!

I just bought this same motor locally here in SE Michigan.
Just a heads up that mine ran perfectly in the tank of water too, then I got in the lake and within 5 feet of the dock spun the prop. It had been rigged several times in the past with screws through the prop housing into the bronze sleeve trying to stop the slipping!
I am now trying to find a prop or repair this one. Any help on that from the other readers would be greatly appreciated.
My situation is a little unusual since the motors on a campground pontoon that will never make it out to the bigger lakes, it's just a cruising/fishing boat so I'm not overly concerned about being stranded.
Does your motor housing have the small Chrysler stickers on it? I don't see them in the pics.
