Live on Long Island. Can get my hands on a 1994 Bayliner Classic 2452 for roughly $8,200. It is a clean boat and was used in fresh water it's entire life before this season. I have no clue about boats.

I'm going to have it inspected by a tech. I found water in one of the front compartments under the fore cabin cushions. It looked to be connected to the bilge (I think) as there was a small tube like opening in it. Is it normal for water ot be there?

Is this a decent price? Being that it's my first boat I want to make sure I'm not getting hosed on the price. I've checked BUC and NADA and it seems to be ok, but does anyone have experience with these?

I thank you in advance for any and all comments.

That water sounds troubling being in the front like that. So long as she checks out, price doesn't seem crazy. Just remember water in a boat makes everything moist and causes rot and mildew.

Depending, it can be normal for water to be there but a boat owner who cares about his boat would shop-vac it out.

i'm from L.I., where is there fresh water. anyway, water in front is where the anchor locker is.either front hatch was open or anchor line was put away wet.hole is there for water to drain in to bilge, where bilge pump will take care of it.

The price sounds good to me. From Ontario. I have just purchased a 2655 Ciera but it took 1 month of looking at boat after boat before we bought. $8,200 will get you something in the 1985 - 1989 vintage.
Express is right about the tube, it should take the water back to the bilge.
I noticed alot of Bayliners with moisture stains in the headliner around the cabin windows. 1 ciera 2455 was a repo & had been on blocks for 2 seasons & had water in the cabin storage comp on both sides.
Check it out you may need to reseal them.

I have a 1992 2452,the anchor locker drains overboard, to the best of my knowlege the under berth compartments do not drain into the bilge. Be prepared to remove the side windows and re seal them, it isnt hard to do. Is this boat a 305 motor with 2bbl carb? If so the power is adiquate for 2 people but dont expect to haul a crowd around. A 4 bbl carb helps but the only true cure is a 350 motor. the best prop for this boat is the merc 16x16 wide blade,I can post the #s tomorrow. good luck, make sure you get a survey before you buy:)
