Re: First Repsonder to a sinking vessel
I rescued two little girls from a lake early this month.
I was in the middle of the lake that day. A woman waived a white T-shirt at me. I drove to their pontoon boat and saw three women and a little boy on the boat. The lady said the boat was a rental boat. The engine could run and the boat did not go. She said two girls were in the water and pointed to the direction where the girls should be. I looked and did not see them. The lady asked me to take her to rescue the girls. I nodded. She jumped into my little boat. My boat sank quite a bit because she was over 250 lbs. My boat can only carry 600 lbs.
After driving a while, we saw a man and two girls in the water. I told the lady that my boat was small and could not take them all. I had to rescue the girls first, take them to the shore and come back to get the man. The lady agreed. I drove slowly to the girls and took them out of water. I instructed the lady and the girls to sit in the front and the back of the boat to maintain balance. After the girls were on the boat, we looked back and could not see the pontoon boat. The strong wind blew the pontoon away.
There was no ramp around and I spotted a nice boat not far away. I brought the girls and the lady to the boat and the senior couples on the boat agreed to take them. I returned to rescue the man. At that time, the pontoon boat came back to live and rescued the man.
I guess what happened was that two or three families rented a pontoon and did tubing on the lake. When the girls were in the water, the man also jumped into the water. The ladies on the boat did not know how to operate the boat. They called the rental company and the rescue team was 30 minutes away. The wind blew the boat away from the girls and the man. Finally, someone might tell the ladies how to drive the boat so the pontoon ran again.
