ok does it ever end. I tried to put the boat in the water, put put the muffs on at home and tried to start battery sounded dead. so I charged it for a bout 1/2 hour and it started right up. woohoo going out on the boat.......not so much. got to the ramp kids have there life vestson ready to rack back it down battery dead again its a no go. I put this battery in at the begining of he seaon but have only been out once really short ride. my question is, now that I have rambled on about my bad day is, should I be running a deap cycle or a starting battery or a dual purpose in this boat. I onlt have my motor and lights to run on it. maybe when I get around to it a radio. whats the best fit for this?

I'd go with a battery made to be run down and recharged unless you plan on replacing your rectifier with a voltage regulator in the near future. I personally haven't had good luck with batteries staying charged using the standard rectifier that came on the engine. You will loose some starting amps by not useing a starting battery but the deep cycle will be more than strong enough to keep up. You would laugh if you saw the battery I'm useing right now to start my 125 with it's so small, only temporary though while I'm working on the motor. I want to get everything straight before I buy an expensive battery.

Thanks for the advise. I will stick with this battery. someone told me about a "floating charger" he says you can keep it plugged in when ever the boat is sitting and wont over charge. you ever heard of this?

Thanks Jeremy

I've heard of trickle chargers, been around for years, had a friend who used one faithfully for a period of time on his 70 fastback mustang. I don't know much about useing one on a boat though with "electralasis" issues ever present and eating away at the metals on the boat. Did I spell that right? I doubt it! :p

I wish it was the first part. I tried a coil a couple of weeks ago but didnt do it. but it was a pretty good guess on the cd box though. heres one for you I ran it in a barrel today and there was some oil residue on top of the water not much just some little "fish eggs" could this be from the exhaust, Everytime I have changed the lower unit oit there has never been water in it should I be ok? Thanks for everybodys input its been real helpful.

ok this is last time im going to bump this. I can finally put both issus to rest. spark problem turned out to be the cd box. there is many good ideas in here for testing the ignition system thank you. the battery issue turred out to be corrosion on the starter brcket. Im assuming the starter is self grounded so I took it all aprt again and cleaned every bolt hole, every connection and all surfaces with a little sand paper. cranks over like a charm. we went out on the charles river tonight for about an hour. had no issues. my kids were so excited. thanks to everybody again for the help. I hope with all I learned I can stick around to help others.
