Just wanted to say thanks to all you guys for the help and encouragement on this massive project of mine. I now feel like I understand this motor to a T !!! It is good to have the experience on your own particular motor (especially when it is older) so that you have all the knowledge that you can get just in case you have a boo-boo out on the water.

Anyways, she is running like new!! Got my first 4 hours of break-in on the motor and followed the Evinrude-Johnson factory procedure. Motor runs good and strong. Idles down to 600RPMs in gear and doesn't miss a beat.

Below I have posted some videos of the engine at idle, at about 3000RPMs, and at WOT (5800RPMs). A little scary that Evinrude suggests you opening throttle for 1-2 minutes as early as the SECOND hour of break-in .

I ended up waiting until the 3rd hour before it touched WOT for a minute or so....... Spent a lot of time at minimum plane speed (3200rpms, about 14 MPH). Not too bad for a heavy 20' boat. Also spent some good time at my favorite cruise speed for this rig (4200rpms, 23mph.)
