Hello all - I have a mercruiser 4.3 alpha one 2008 larson. I just started it up for the first time and it worked. Checked oil level, gear lube monitor, put charged battery in, checked all gauges, put muffs and water on. Cranked boat for about 10 seconds - no go. Let it sit for a couple of minutes, cranked again and it started with ALOT OF WHITE SMOKE?. Then it died. Waited again, started it again and she ran good. Let it idle for about 5 minutes, then let it run at about 1000-1500 rpms. Oil pressure and temp gauge got to normal level. Success!!

But - should I be concerned about white smoke? It was coming from the prop shaft? It stopped after a while, but when I put it in gear I was still getting a little? Thanks Feels pretty good to start doing my own PM and saving a couple of bucks!

If it was fogged properly last fall you'll get a touch of hard starting in the spring + lots of white smoke.
Now how about a tune up.... cap rotor plugs.

Did you fog the engine when you winterized it?

There is 40 hours on the engine. I thought fogging would cause white smoke, ie it has to burn off?
