In the price range you're looking at, I cannot recommend strongly enough an aluminum boat with an outboard. On a tinnie, even if the deck and/or transom are rotted, it's not a big deal to replace and the the boat's structure is all aluminum.

i too am (kind of) from your area about a hour south of you. you made the right choice by not going with that one. the bike you show is is really good shape. one thing i learned last year when i purchased my boat (was and still is my first) that if seller is up front aboutone major issue then ther are 10 smaller one that will follow. Dont be afraid to back out of a deal. Read plenty one here about deck, stringer and transome rebuilds. Also what to look for. Since i have been in a garage turning wrenches since i was 8 i went for a i/o chevy power (only cuz i have experance with them) but do your home work feel free to pm me since we are in the same area

Re: First thread - Should I run?!?!

I started off last year looking for a cheap boat. Was hoping to get a running boat for $2500. Then I did research and found out those were crap. A lot of those boats will end up costing you more. Parts can be hard or impossible to find in some cases and the condition can be pretty poor. Then they come with less features then new ones. I then started looking at much nicer boats bow riders that were sub $5,000 range. Then I saw an amazing cuddy with a lot of the features I wanted, in amazing condition for $7,500. I went with that and am I very satisified. Cost of owning a boat is not cheap. Maintenance, gas, and storage/launch/marina fees can add up fast. Might as well get someone that is in good condition. Some people buy a boat like that for $1.5k then put $5k into it. It will still be an old boat and will be tops sold for $2.5k.
