I believe his answer was to stay away from it.

Better put, would you buy a bank repossessed house? Probably for the right price. But you would expect to have to make some repairs. Boats can have some expensive hidden problems if you are not experienced enough to know what to look for. A boat not properly maintained can become a huge and expensive problem fast. :(

Keep looking at boats, the more you look, the better you become at identifying your likes/dislikes and potential problems.

The second part was to look into a "Boat Club" where you buy into a group of community (Club) owned boats. The Club performs all maintenance, repairs (not damage) and storage. Somewhat similar to leasing a car and storing it at a local garage.

Some people like it, some don't. I have heard a lot of boat owners (friends/not here) say they would have preferred a club because they're not using the boat enough to justify the cost.

I like owning my boat. I don't like to lease cars.
