Am planning on running my 5.7 Mercruiser w/Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive on muffs for the 1st time. I put the muffs on, turn the water on, start the motor.....how long should I expect it to take until I see water coming out of the exhaust port?

My Alpha 1-Gen 1 typicaly takes bout 3 seconds Maybe 4-5 seconds, if its been trailered up and down hills and sat for a few days or more as alot of the cooling system has drained. Its gonna take a few seconds for the system to fill up again.

I also muffed my motor for the first time, i was a little nervouse, just in case the water was not circulating but it went fine. dont run the motor longer then 5 min

Re: First time on muffs

I have run my 4.3l on the muffs for 20min. to bring the oil up to temp without any problems.

I did hear that you shouldn't rev the motor up over +/-1500rpm, as you may not have enough water flow in the hose and the pump could suck the hose flat, and damage your impeller because of lack of water.

Check the exhaust ports often for water, just to be sure, and keep an eye on your temp gauge.

Cheers

I've had my motor idling for close to an hour before with no problem so I don't get what your saying here???

on my boat (sig.) with my manifold and block full (not drained). after i start my engine. i immediately go to the back of the boat and look for water discharge. by the time i get to the back of the boat (which only takes seconds) water is flowing out all points of exit. if i'm drained. it will take maybe another 5-10 sec. for water to start flowing (out prop hub). maybe another 5 sec. for water coming out all points of exit.

Thats the lawyers talking..If there is a defect in their part, they dont want to buy you a new motor
