First time out

I didn't grow up around powerboats, I bought my first one about age 30. The first time out, I got about a lap and a half around a 100 acre lake, and she quit. Cranked and cranked, nothing. My wife, who had grown up with a little runabout, asked "Did you open the tank vent?"<br /><br />"They have vents??" was my sheepish reply.

A couple of years ago, I was out running a new to me Merc. tower. The engine ran fine for a bit, then started running a little rough. <br /><br />I slowed down to check it out and heard a popping sound from under the transom. When I opened the transom cover to look, I found the plastic gas tank looked like a crushed soda can. I opened the vent and it popped back out. <br /><br />That old engine had a good fuel pump.

100 acre lake isn't very big. Did you even get to WFO?

That is another SHT I have done. It is so easy to forget that little vent cap.
