Hello all, I am looking to build a liveaboard boat for me and my girlfriend I have worked in a dockyard for 3 years and am comfortable with outfitting and doing my own work but before I buy anything I would like to find someone who is or has done something similar.

I want to build an electric boat that can be self sufficient and doesn't need to go into port, my plan is to use solar wind and hydro electric power while traveling and on anchor, I have practically 0 experience or knowledge of marine grade motors, battery's or what company's to use for all the parts, if anyone could give my some insight I would be extremely grateful as there are so many options and navigating them is difficult.

Thankyou

I have friends that would live on the hook for up to 6 months. Generator, wind generator, 10 solar panels, spare wind generator, spare panels

They could never get to where they didn't run the generator

They did loose most of the solar panels, the wind generator and half the railings in a tropical storm.

To be 100%self sufficient, you can power everything but the propeller.

Passive solar arrays are not that efficient except for that one moment when they are aimed perfectly. Boats bobbing up and down are not that efficient. Seagull and pelican crap covering the solar panels cuts down on efficiency. Cloudy days, rain, etc.

You can cover your house loads with solar and wind generator. But you will need an internal combustion engine as backup and for propulsion
