first time replacing transom I need a lil help

I got all of the rotten wood out of the transom and have made a paper cut out of the inside of the transom shell. since the cutout is the exact same size as the inside of the shell I know if I use the cut out I've got now to cut the new wood it would be too big by the time I wrapped it in glass and resin . I was wondering if anyone could tell me how thick the layers of glass and resin should be so I know how much smaller I need to make the cut out. oh yeah sometimes I will be posting from my droid so please let me know if anything looks weird on a regular pc

I am allowing 1/4" on all sides of my transom. Any spaces that remain will be filled in with the PB used to glue the transom in place.

Cardboard or Fiberboard and a School house compass with pencil. Trace the bottom of the hull onto the cardboard/fiberboard then cut out the pattern and trace it onto the stringer wood. String lines across the hull at the deck height and plumb bob down to the hull to determine the height of the stringer. Subtract the thickness of the deck material.
