I was out fishing the other day and the trim motor went out while trimming it up to fish some flats. I was able to get the motor to trim down enough to get out by pressing the trim button up and down, but it seems like the trim motor is seized up. I can hear power get to the trim motor, but it just clicks and stops. I also checked with a meter and the new motor and have power making it to the connection after the relays. I had tried to start the manual release valve but it started to strip so I just stopped until I could get home and out of the water. So I have a new trim motor ready to go, and I was planning on heating up a large flathead to get it further into the manual release to get a better slot to work with. Do you guys have any other suggestions? Also do you think a couple of guys will be able to lift that motor up once the pressure is released while a third person blocks it from falling?

You might look at the way the PTT motor fits between the transom brackets. On my '93 Merc V6, you need to remove the starboard transom bracket to remove the PTT motor. If it is the same on your motor, simply loosen the PTT body bolts to the transom bracket and remove the starboard transom bracket. Now you can tilt the motor(by hand) anyway you need. Block it up good so it doesn't kill you, while you work under it.

Those plastic manual releases can get really stuck. I ended up chlseling out the manual release, in many pieces. I tried the heated screwdriver, w/o success.
