Hi all,
I have a 1968 mercury thunderbolt 500 50 hp. I am going to attempt my first water pump repair (replace if necessary). I have not actually had it in a lake or resivour myself, but when I sunk it in a tub it wasn't pumping water, nor was it with the muffs. I have seen all of the instructional pictures and walkthroughs on this site(very helpful) and that has lessened my fears of really screwing it up. What I would like to know is, is there a seal where the shaft of the motor separates when I remove the bolts holding it together. and if I take all of the bolts out and it doesn't slide right apart is there a good meathod to break it loose to slide out? and help is much appreciated
