Looking for a fishfinder.
I only fish in the ocean 20'- 120'.
What would be the best unit in that price range?$250-400.

Are there any that will see botton even at high er speeds like 35 knots?

I'd pay more if I really need to.

Thansk for any help.

Howdy, WGR.

Though I am a Garmin fan for GPS, I have had nothing but good performance from a variety of Lowrance/Eagle sonar-only models. I currently use an X-85 Lowrance.

There are several Lowrance/Eagle units that are in your price range and offer the performance you are asking for. Visit the Lowance website for details and MSRP. Most online marine outfitters carry them at below MSRP.

Good luck. :)

Ditto on Snapperbait’s suggestion of a Furuno product. For reference, right now there is a guy on Ebay selling four brand new LS6100 units for $260/ea. I do not know if they come with a transducer.

WGR
You got some good suggestions here and all the units listed will work at speed if you get the transducer mounted in a good spot.
Understant that you will not see fish at much over trolling speed unless it is a big ball of bait.

I do not know if you are like me and fishing out to 120 feet because of the California bottom fishing regs
or if that just where you like to fish. Saltwater requires more power to get good returns.
Out to 120 feet can still use a 200 Khz 20 degree transducer. Much over that and you will need to go to a 8 degree transducer to see bottom fish.
At 120 feet of salt water I suggest get a unit with at least 375 Watts RMS power or 3000 Watts Peak to Peak power.
If you ever plan to fish over 200 feet of salt water I suggest a dual Frequency unit. The 50 KHZ just does much better in deep salt water.
I would also suggest 500 watts RMS or 4000 peak to peak. Furuno one of the very best in saltwater.
80 percent of the Comerical fleet out of Bodega bay uses Furuno.
One other thing if you troll with downriggers. The 50 Khz transducers have a cone angle of 35 to 45 degrees and you can usually see your ball
on the fish finder and tell if is above or bellow the fish you see.
Hope this helps.

Take a look at this power boat test posted on Furuno Site.

http://www.furuno.com/furuno/ Rooms/DisplayPages/LayoutInitial?Container=com.webridge.entity.Entity%5BOID%5B8F8BE60B974E0641BF10C6B0C9A6EB1D%5D%5D
