Just installed a brand new Raymarine L265 Fishfinder. Installation seemed to go okay. Boat is on trailer. After set up began esting the unit and all seems well except that the depth reading just keeps flashing 0.0..I cant get it to read the depth from the transducer to the ground. Would it not give a reading because the boat is on land? Or have I done something wrong?

you need a meduim {water..something to reflect off of).. You also may want to check connection on sensor.

Conections are all real nice. I figured the sonar would bounce off the ground, but maybe it just gets absorbed?
tomorrow I go out with a bucket!

gtashie,
Your best bet to test your unit is to put the boat in the water. A bucket will let you know if the transducer is working, but the real test is in water. I'm willing to bet that it's working just fine.
Fred

The transducer has to be in the water.
What I do when checking mine is I use a bucket of water.
Make sure the transducer is fully submerged.

If the transducer is working you will hear clicking noises coming from it.

transducer IS working (I hear it)..I was freaked at the zero readin, but never having installed one I figured the sonar would bounce off ground too. Thanks

Gtashie
Well my unit will read the ground while on the trailer but have to turn sensitive up and then it read ablut 4 times the actual distance. That is because sound travels much slower in air than water. It will probably work fine when you launch.

Hi..
I have a Apelco 265 and the transducer has to be in water before it will read anything...I had to go into raymarine web page cause I didnt have any instruction booklet with mine since it was used...Apelco and Raymarine is the same...I hope you enjoy your fishfinder as much as I have mine...Good luck!!!!!
