The transducer bottom surface should not mounted much below the bottom of the hull. Just slightly, would be best. This is probably the cause of the rooster tail effect...

Re: fish finder ,transducer ?????

Not to steal this thread away, but I have a question that kind of goes with this....

Are transducers suppose to work at high speeds? like 30+ MPH?

When My motor was mounted 1 hole lower it would work at 40MPH, but when I moved my motor up one hole, after about 25MPH it doesn't work, the fish finder just shows jumbles and werd stuff like 2000 Ft debth..

Thanks,

-TheChad

chad, with your new setup, your transducer is now running in turbulence - assuming it's the right height as shown in rick's pic, it's probably too close to the motor.

Re: fish finder ,transducer ?????

I think even rick is a little high. I put a stright edge on the hull on the deep side and try to get the top of the rule to be right in the center of the transducer. In ricks great picture the little notch I would line up with the bottom of the hull on the right side.

Yes it may have a roster tail. Yes a little stick or debree may hit it and kick it up but it will work at high speed. Make sure not too close to the chims. 12 to 18 inches from the motor is about right.

Like ricks mount it where the transducer can be adjusted up as down, then go test it. If it works at speed as ricks is mounted great. If not lower it some and try again.
