I finially got my boat fixed enough to put her on the water, few extras I want. What is a good fish finder for a beginner other words easy to operate yeah but catches BIG fish?

Post this question in the electronics forum for many answers. Can't go wrong with any Lowrance, Garmin, Raymarine or Furuno model. Which model will depend on your specific needs.

the three most important characteristics of any fishfinder are: resolution, resolution and resolution. Add Eagle to the names dan mentioned, and then look for the one with the most vertical pixels per inch you can afford.

who you callin a beginner, rick? that's what I use...actually I agree, mine stays in auto mode mostly...hard to find a better value...320 pixels on a 5" diagonal screen is quite adequate...I won't upgrade till I'm ready to spend big bucks for color & integrated gps. <br /><br />Stay away from the less than $100 units - they function well enough but they're really more like children's toys than actual grown-ups' toys. IMHO.<br /><br />As far as catching big fish...got a few in the 5 to 7 lb range, and one really big carp, must have been close to 20 (released without putting it in the boat). But I'm still workin on it! <br /><br />If you're fishing for largemouth bass, or any shallow water (< 15 or 20ft) fish really, it'll be more of a "fish habitat finder" - but for schooling fish in deeper water, you can catch the fish you see on the screen.
