I thought it was a Porgy then a sanpper but the side fin is tiny compared to the snapper and porgy.

What do you think?

The one I caught was smaller but looked the same. I caught mine in Palm coast in the intercoastal channels. The yellow was striking.

Yup,

I'm the blenny guy. I like to fish off of Peanut Island boat docks near the West Palm Beach Inlet in ICW. I catch at least a couple blenies when I fish there. Then I caught this the other day. It's not a photoshop ether, I have a few more pics if ya want.

I use fish fillets, dead shrimp, and have a chum bag hanging.

Don't know which aquarium since there are over 200 blenny species.

Looks to me like some kind of Chub, i used to see lots of them in Hawaii, but i googled Gray Chub and came up with lots of pictures that look like that one. There seem to be lots of them in the Southern Atlantic all the way up to New Jersey and possibly even further.
Does this look familiar?

Hey, I like fishing off of Peanut Island also ... have caught some nice snapper and a whole lot of jacks there. Even caught a ray and some 'cuda. I always fish in the current, just off the piling as you are coming in the inlet. Good fishing there.

Not sure what you have there, although I have caught a couple of them...

Looks a lot like a rudderfish.

http://www.picsearch.com/info.cgi?q...-7s7-21IjuvnJdJhMNVo5PkPNfdeIuivvpjg&start=21

i used to spear a lot of them off the shore of Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station beach when i was stationed in Hawaii at Hickam AFB.

The locals normally leave fish in tact (don't gut and clean them) until just prior to cooking, except for this one. They gut and clean ASAP after catching/spearing one. They believe it makes it taste better or prevents it from tasting bad. Never could tell a difference myself.

Re: Fish ID.

By the picture the Sgt. posted, i would say you have yourself a rudderfish. OK, two down (blenny, rudderfish) and how many more to go. I remember fishing in those canals in Miami when I was a kid, all kinds of weird fish came out of there. I guess they just found their way north to WPB!! :p

I think so. Look at the markings above the thin lateral line on the body. They both seem to share the irregular markings above and the same horizontal marking below. If not, call em a Bermuda Chub! :)

Re: Fish ID.

Different areas call the same fish different names. The problem is that they also call different fish by the same name.

For instance, if you look up Rudderfish on an East Coast website you get a fish in the Amberjack family.

Totally confused? :D

Anyone know the diffrence between a Poggie, Bunker, and a Menhaden? :D

Menhaden, also known as mossbunker and pogy

I think that like you said it is a Bermuda Chub
the Rudder fish looks like the tail is light compare to the chup.
