What is general consensus on what is a good fish locator that shows fish in a way that you can tell they are fish. I would like to add one. I am looking for lower end price. Maybe 5 or 7 inch screen. I thought about Garmin Vivid 5 CV. Around $300 What do you like.

I looked at it at Cabelas and talk to a sales person. It seemed to look pretty good. Thanks for commenting.

They have something on amazon called the stern saver, it glues on the transom so you can screw the transducer to it instead of the hull itself! i just installed mine a week or so ago when we had 2 days of being over 60

Just turn Fish ID on.
You would be amazed at how many "fish" are down........lol

In reality, no units show fish. They simply show you a sonar return of the object below. It's up to you to interrupt the return and decide if its a fish or not.

With lots of experience and a good quality transducer, you can tell what species you're looking at as well.

No matter what you buy, it will be outdated in a couple years. I have only had cheap units until last summer when I bought a used boat with a lowrance hdi unit, it is a few years old but the fanciest unit I have ever used ! I have the down scan that is pretty cool, probably outdated by now but it is a much more expensive unit new, than I would ever buy.....easy to drop a thousand or two for a fancy one..
