Boston Whaler's 16'7" hull was called a 16 up until 1973, then it became a 17.

Based on that, I agree with Skargo. It is what the maker calls it.

My 2004 Trophy is 21' 7" it is considered a 20 footer, today, 2009 version it's called a 21 footer. Manufacturer's discretion.

Call it what you like, maybe 18 ft. to your insurance co. 19 ft. for your ego.
