Hey everyone, I bought this motor off of craigslist last summer without seeing it run, got it home stuck it in the barrel. I was able to get it started but within i'd say 10 seconds it freezes up. Oh great another hot deal from CL. Well it sat in the garage till the other day when i decided to take the head off and give a look. Still siezed of course, so I got a chunk of wood and tapped on each piston fo a bit and was able to get it unfroze. My questions are #1 why would it seize before it even hade a chance to warm up and 2 what would you do before trying to start it again? I only paid $100 for it and I dont really even need it but if I could get it running again cheap I could at least get my money out of it. Thanks in advance, Dean

it probably had sat for a period, and had no or little lube left on it. you may get lucky. put some oil in the cylinders, for a period. with motor face down. then on it's back, drain the oil. now upright spray some premixed fuel into the carbs so it gets to the intake,. with plugs out, turn over feeling for hard spots. and this:

Thanks TD, I just got done standing it up and putting some oil in the cylinders. Marvel Mystry Oil. Still need to get a head gasket. Also while I was out there I wrote down the serial # and was wondering if anyone can tell me what year it is. 55242-02502.

Assuming your model number is 5524 not 55242 its a 1962.
