Hi Steve/Carol,

On the subject of steam cleaning I said that I was talking about steam cleaning the INSIDE of the tank. In Australia it's a legal requirement before welding. It's also a great way to clean out the tank.

Chris..........

P.S. the boat's mine, she's 32 years old.

humm well your subject line said "x"

Then a reply I saw was "y?"

Another posted "IC"

So I posted "o"

there was hummor there I beleive. I beleive there was an obvious error on the message board for some reason. This board has been a great suppport forum and I just jumped in on the what I thought was a post of hummor.

I guess not huh. back to boat fixing. I am trying to finallize my engine swap today.

I just finished swapping out a merc 120 4 cylinder with a 165 inline 6. Just finished tweaking it today. Had to replace the tach with a 6 cylinder Tach. Got that done today. Taking it to the water on Monday I think. Give it its maiden voyage.

Steve/Carol,

You do read alot.... Yes, best thing I did. In 1994 I had the gears in the top box come apart. I repaired that but noticed that all the housings were looking seriously old. Mostly corrosion. The options were to sell the boat and buy something else (someone else's problems) or bin the old engine and put a out-of-the-box new one in, that included the transom housings and leg, trim system and controls and instruments, complete package. I opted for the new engine and added fresh-water cooling (heads on the V6s are thin). Now I have the boat I like with an engine that does it justice. With a standard 3 blade 21" ali prop I get to about 40knots. I run a 4 blade prop for the smoothness and it's less susceptible to fouling on seaweed.

Merc Blues. I don't think you'll be disappointed with that engine. I really like the old 165, was one of my favorites to work on when I owned my boat shop. They do like to be propped on the high side. Try and get the rpm up to 4200 minimum.

Chris.............
