Trying to select the best unit for 62' aluminum hull house boat, lower helm mounted. Desire to see best depth info and picture of lake bottom (Table Rock, MO) 250 feet or more in spots. Dual or single frequency? Thru hull transducer? Clearest information, most reliable brand and model#? $500 to $700 range.

Thanks

250 feet of clear fresh water is posible but your need 500 watts RMS if you want to see fish that deep with a 200 Khz transducer. For that depth I would go with Lowrance. Also if you want to see fish that deep then need pretty good resolution. I would suggest 480 vertical resoultion or more.

Transducer on Aluminum should use a transom mount.

Dual frequency units would work and to find a unit with good resoultion and 500 watts RMS you may have to get a dual frequency unit even if you only get the 200 khz transducer.

If it's bottom definition you mainly want, shallow and deep, and your looking at 5-$700 i'd go for colour, dual freq, Lowrance has the best range in that price bracket, models, X515C DF, X102CF X107CF, Eagle aren't too bad either Their made by Lowrance, similar models, a bit cheaper.

Consider a low-end Furuno unit. Furuno is the choice of commercial fishermen, and enjoys excellent support.

The Furuno FCV-620 is head and shoulders the best FF on the market in your price range. With a Airmar 600W thru-hull tranducer you will have a very good FF setup.

That's the one for me, thank you.
For some reason I didn't even consider Furuno while shopping. Boy they like their transducers, don't they. Dang things are more than the unit. I want the ?Shoot through hull? transducer. I'm told I can't use a transom mount on my ranger 1850. Looks like I'm in for well over a grand to do this baby.
Great thread, though. It is just the information I was looking for. Thanks guy's
