I have a Raymaine DS600X on the helm and a Hummingbird 525 connected through a MinnKota 80US Trolling Motor.

What I see on the Raymarine is very different from what I see on the 525. Why?

The DS600X will show many fish. Not all arcs some just numbers but when I throw the marker and go to the bow the 525 does not show anything.

???

Turn Fish ID off and turn the sensitivy way up untill you see lots of false targets and you should see fish. Humming Birds are my last choice.

fish id on the Ray A series is fun to watch, but I found it to be useless. It assumes that everything not connected to the bottom is a fish. My kids enjoy watching it.

I don't use the fish ID on any finder I have ever had. Way easier to decipher the return with my own eyes.

I do turn it on for amusement purposes when my wife gets frustrated with the way the fishing is going..."see honey...tons of fish under us"

Is the Ray DS600x the problem or any finder with the Fish ID on? Is there a way to set-up the Ray to better depict real fish?

There is no fish finder that can just show "real" fish. Anything floating down there will show as a fish. Thats why its better to turn the fish ID off and just watch for arches. Thats still not 100% but much better than fish ID. The new side scan sonars are even better if you want a really expensive toy.

Here's an excellent write-up on how fish are graphed
http://www.eaglegps.com/Support/Tutorials/Sonar/default.htm

And here's an actual photo of a school of white bass attacking a school of threadfin shad, as shown on an Eagle Fishmark 320:

Also, that hummingbird has half the power of the raymarine unit. 250W vs. 500W
