If I was spending the $$$ this is what I would get.
Plus there is a $100 rebate right now.

Re: Fishfinder suggestions.....

I bought a new Lowrance x510c to replace a 7 year old Lowrance x75 I had.
My X75 was Great. The X510c is not. It freezes up in shallow water. I`d look at Furuno or Humminbird. I just got my X510c back from Lowrance to get repaired. I have a funny feeling its not fixed freezes up in my garage haven`t been on the water yet. Lowrance is not the product it was a few years ago.

$900 is a great deal if it is new and a place with good customer service.
The LCX-27C with external antenna and 200 Khz transducer is very good for salt water out to about 300 feet max. Deeper than that and I would get the dual frequency transducer. Of course you can add that later. Has 1000 watts power with the dual frequency transducer.

The 527C is also a great unit and has the same resoultion. The screen is not as wide so not as much history with the sonar and smaller chart with the GPS part. Has 500 watts power. As with the LCX-27C good down to about 300 feet max with the 200 Khz transducer.

Understand both units come with out detailed charts installed. The Base maps are much better than garmins base map. So if you want charts with water depth and contour lines you will have to add a chip for your area.

LCX-28C HD is the same unit as the LCX 27C but includes all the detailed maps on a Hard Drive. Of course at a higher price. Many people like the highest detailed maps with depth reading and contour lines. I for one really like the looks of the base map better where the water is blue but does not have depth readings. The detailed maps try to match the color of the standard NOAA Charts much more detail.

Depth readings the LCX-27C with the dual frequency transducer has 1000 watts power rms where the 527 is 500 watts. Power makes a difference in deep salt water. However the dual frequency units both have a 200 Khz 12 degree transducer and 50Khz 37 degree transducer. Single frequency 200 khz transducer are 20 degrees. The 20 degree transducer is better in fresh water and shallow water. The 12 degree transducer is better in deep salt water. Anything over 200 feet and out to about 450 feet. Deeper than the 450 feet will probably do better with the 50Khz 37 degree transducer that is part of the dual frequency transducer.
