Fishfinder Transducer Placement

I just bought a Hummingbird Piranha 5 (wide angle) and am wondering about placement of the transducer on the transom. The question is: Will placement of the transducer on the transom be affected by its proximity to another transducer for the speedometer (also on the transom)?

Thanks

It shouldn't affect it unless the water flow past the transducer is disturbed somehow. Transducers and speed sensors are typically mounted side by side.

BarryBob
I agree with Jack close to the speedometer pick up a good place normaly. You might want to put on a mounting plate first then mount transducer to it. That way over the years do not end up with lots of holes in boat. Instead will have two to mount mounting plate all other in the plate and not in the boat.

I was planning on using the same hole in the transom as the speedo wire but it wasn't obvious how to disconnect the wire at either the speedo end or the transom end (hole is too small for both wires), so I drilled another hole.

WHY MOUNT IT ON THE TRANSOM! Most transducers can be epoxyed to the hull with a slow cure epoxy. (DO NOT PUT ANY THING IN THE EPOXY! TRANSDUCERS CAN'T WORK IN AIR.) when it is mounted in the hull there is no fear of someone stealing your transducer, or it being effected by turbulance! You can also mount it in the bow so when you fish, you can know how deep it is, at the bow!!!
There are two ways of mounting a transducer in the hull, if you email me at funnysailboats@hotmail.com I can send you instructions and a diagram on both ways to install a transducer. (you manual {I also have the piranha 4} says how to mount it with epoxy, but there is a harder, but better way!..

Good luck!

This also will now work on a hull with a core :(

So here's where I am right now. Yesterday I drilled a hole in the transom (next to the speedo thingy) and I'm prepared to mount it there.

The boat is a 19' bowrider V-hull. What's your recommendation about mounting the transducer? How could it be epoxied on the hull and not get wrecked by the trailer?

Thanks

BarryBob....Sloopy doesn't mean to epoxy it to the transom but inside the hull or bilge so that the sonar actually goes through the hull. That is usually done with a different transducer though. If this is a new unit didn't mounting directions come with it? The mounting angle and how much below the hull it extends are important also.
