The easiest way is to install the transmitter at the hull. You can stick the transmitter with pantera marine sealant or sikaflex in your bilge. That works, but be careful that there are no bubbles in the glue.
You do not have to drill a hole.

Welcome to the forum. I much prefer the transom mounted version instead of the thru hull. I have had issues with the thru hull but never the transom mounted. You can and should drill all of the way through the transom and treat the open hole with marine grade sealant prior to installing the screws.

For finding fish - I have no idea.
For a depth finder, through hull works fine and is easiest to install.

If you install the transmitter inside the hull, you do not have the water temperature, of course.

Re: fishfinder

i am also looking to glue the transducer to the inside of the hull.

I have a 1987 17ft seville, i was trying to find an level plane to glue it on. Does it matter if its level or can it be glue on an angle part of the hull??

The only two places i found was one, next to the bilge pump directly under the motor. not sure how well of a place that is??

The second place i was thinking was in the far cornor of the back of the boat. its quite level and theres alot of room for it.

Any ideas? anyone have the smae boat and installed a fish finder???

Before gluing it in put some water in bilge, hold down unit with a peace of wood or something and take it for a test run and see how it works. Placing it in the back center(drain plug area) away from any outer ribs is best' as they create disturbance it the water and can cause the unit to give false or stop working all together. In your depth manual it will say what type of glue to use and not to.I have installed through hall in all my boats (5) and never had a problem. How ever like Ride The Lightning stated temp gauge must go outside,as I place mine out through through the cable & hose fitting as it's an outboard .I had a 1988 seville with a 135 SeaRay(Merc) ob and it worked great in the bilg area.
