Let's be careful folks. You know the hosts can and will shut this thread down if it goes downhill.

^^^ for that reason: :tape:

...Reddit also reports that a group of WWII veterans tore down the barricade at the WWII memorial when turned away due to park closures. Me thinks their reps may be getting some phone calls by the end of the day. I'd love to hear them try to explain that away to a D-Day veteran...
A little clarity on this one: those vets were part of a planned "Honor Flight" taking them to the monument. The Reps/Sens that were with 'em (I think from both parties) gave advanced notice that these guys would get to the monument, barricades or not. What wound up being the case was that the barricades were moved out of the way by the Reps/Sens to get these vets to their memorial.

Just don't want it to seem as those fella's did anything disrespectful.

Going to fish mornings and hooked up with an old buddy to pickup 3-4 limo gigs per week to keep the cash flow moving through the shutdown. Also gonna take advantage to hang with my teenage kids more while the weather is nice. Makin' lemonade!

The worst part is the unknown return date...

Re: Fishing full-time

Sorry but life happens.

Back in January the company I work for suffered a major fire and we lost 75% of the facility along with 80% of the workforce. Now after 9months we are bearly back to 40% prefire production.

Then on a more personal note I have just started an undertermined stay on unpaid FMLA and will be having my second hospital stay on Friday within these past 2 weeks. While on FMLA there is no unemployment because I am physically unable to work and no the company I work for does not carry short term disablity.

Sorry but my opinion is that both sides are wrong on this and I am tired of listening to the BS from both sides.

You do realize the horrible unspeakable consequences .................. if you do not catch fish!! Hang in there, this will pass.

(angus.....just a side note ..... remember in the early 80's maybe 82 or 83 when the military changed fiscal years..... we used to plan for July-June then they changed it to Oct - Sep - it's all like shuffling a deck of cards ;))

Weather is so warm that the fishing is pretty poor right now. Caught a few meals but nothing to go to market. Spent more time than I hoped applying for unemployment insurance. Claim specialist told me they are extremely understaffed for the new number of claims filed today and is not certain how long it will be until my claim is verified and processed. On a good note my wife & kids get home in 2 hours and we are off to the beach with the dog for a bbq dinner on a sunny 85 degree day. Bob- I started in 1981 and vaguely remember the confusion of getting supplies issued when the FY process changed. I was 19 yrs old and only concern was beer and gas and girls!!

What's changed? Better choices in beer, gas costs more now. But you found the gal or she found you. :D

Hope the fishing weather improves for you, Angus. At least the ocean is still open unlike many inland waterways/lakes. 43 miles of the Chattahoochee, of "Deliverance" fame, is closed to recreation for some reason.

Re: Fishing full-time

Follow up:

Back to work today. No hardship for my family and I hope for all my colleagues.
Fishing was a bust financially but enjoyed every minute.
Happy I was able to attend the Hershey PA antique car show during the furlough, but Fall tent camping is not as much fun on the bones at this age as it used to be. Spent three days in the PA woods with my best friend from kindergarten. Lotsa steaks, scotch, and laughs.
Looks like holiday plans are on hold this year to make up three weeks of classes, but happy to be back!
Hoping not to face the uncertainty and anxiety of future furloughs.

Glad everything is getting back to normal. I hope the students are able to make it back without being too far behind too. Hopefully, everyone has learned that acting like a grown up gets you a lot farther than pitching a fit. Either way, I have a feeling most folks are not going to soon forget all this mess, or wish to see it return.

Re: Fishing full-time

Nice to hear you had a good time. Wish my last 3 weeks out of work were as enjoyable instead of 2 seperate hospital stays. Hopefully I'll be returning to work soon. Now how do I get congress to turm my FMLA into a paid vacation!

Re: Fishing full-time

Sounds like you had a productive shutdown, except for the fishing. I hope we all learned some lessons on this, we'll find out in a couple of months.

Are you gonna give a "welcome back" test to see if they kept up on studies?
