Fishing Line effect performance

So the guy I just bought this boat from said he got too close to the shore and hit some rocks and banged the prop up but I don't think it looks real bad. He said since then, he lost some speed with the boat and blamed the prop. I took the prop off tonight and found a bunch of fishing line wrapped around the prop shaft. Would this cause much of a performace loss? Also, how do I identify what prop I need to shop for. So far I know it is a 15 spline off a Mercruiser 140 and I find some badly worn numbers on the inside of the prop, looks like 48 7488619?

Its highly unlikely the fish line caused a problem.
It would have evidence of severe rubbing.It could damage the prop shaft seal.
The dinged up prop could cause a loss of performance.
The 19 is likely the pitch. You could get the prop fixed.And do some test runs to get us the max rpm and speed. We can help you figure if you need a change.

Currently the rpm is at 3800 full throttle. Just seems like it should go a little better. Doesn't really seem to get up in a plane but I am new to this game.

Please read the stickies at the top of the page we need a lot more info to tell how youre doing.
Typically a 19 is about right for a 140 but the actual size would depend on the boat and your typical load. Your rpm is low; not knowing your actual setup your rpm should be about 4,800.
Your dinged up prop could affect the results.To be sure about you're performance get the prop
repaired and do some test runs.If a change is in order keep the prop as a spare.
In the mean time be sure the motor is in excellent tune,good compression,throttle opening all the way bottom clean and smooth.
